Two sets of alphabetical subject files documenting the organization, administration, and various activities and relationships of the society. The earlier files, 1870-1962, include both general correspondence files, consisting mainly of letters from members, other societies and elected officials, requests for information, and abuse complaints; and individual subject files. Included in the latter are records of the 1930-1945, 1947, and 1950 annual meetings, articles of incorporation and bylaws (1870-1945), historical materials (1872-1923), Junior Humane Society correspondence (1948-1950), monthly radio broadcast scripts (1939-1951), St. Paul Shopper weekly articles (1948-1950s), and material documenting civil service, 1930s-1940s dognapping legislation, St. Paul's July 4th celebrations, Kindness Week observances, activities of society president Dr. D. L. Halver and executive agent/secretary James Nankivell, the American Humane Education Society, and the St. Paul Humane Society.
